Kajiya-chō as a birthplace has produced a number of famous personalities of various fields (e.g. Samurai of the Satsuma domain, supreme commander of Japanese army, one of the three great nobles who led the Meiji Restoration (1828-1877), Japanese admiral of the fleet (1848–1934), Prime Minister of Japan (1852-1933)): Saigō Takamori, Tōgō Heihachirō, Yamamoto Gonnohyōe and some more.
